CAS 40, Holiday

This card I created for the challenge "word" over at CASology more focused on the word itself.

For the card, I began to cut out the letter "holiday" from a Kraft cardstock using PTI's wonderful words: holiday collection. My original idea went with using the cut-out image but I changed my mind to create something with the negative side in order to highlight the word "holiday" itself.

I trimmed the negative side into a panel, punched each corner, and looked at it whether it's OK enough to emphasize the word. I felt I should add something. It was not bad but looked too simple and boring. So the kraft panel should go through my Big Shot with PTI's impression plate (This is a double-sided /canvas-linen/ embossing steel plate and I think I used linen side). Then I rubbed the entire kraft panel with Vintage Cream and Fresh Snow ink pads from PTI.
I finally satisfied with the result after having done all the steps above.

What do you think? This might be our (crafter's) on going dilemma, to add something more or to stop somewhere in the process of creating works?
How can you find your optimal medium?

The next step was adhering the panel to a kraft base. For this, I placed a green patterned paper between a kraft panel and the kraft base.
Then, I used foam tape and this was "the" job that tested my ability to endure. Foam tapes should be cut out to fit exactly into cut-out letters of the negative side and it needed a delicate job. I decidied not to do this work again next time, (but who knows? :D)

As the last step to finish off the card, I put a leaf decoration on the dot in the letter "i." I fortunately kept the decoration from last year's Christmas cake.

Hope you enjoy my card.
I love to hear your opinion about optimal medium in crafting.

  5. Sophia, this is just beautiful! (Seems as though lots of us are playing with our word dies this week!) I love that you can get two cards out of the deal...one using the word and one using the negative space, as you have done here. Just beautiful! Thanks for joining us at CASology this week!
